Scoutmaster Notes
  • If 2018 Troop dues has not been fully paid, please do so.
  • The first summer camp payment was due on 1 Feb and so far only 1 scout has made the first payment.  To qualify for the $390 "early bird discount" names and a $100 deposit for each scout must be at the council office by 1 Mar 2018.  Therefore, anyone paying the 1st payment after February 15th will not qualify for the early bird and have to pay the $415 camp payment.
  • Camp cards (see below) will distributed at this Thursday's meeting to any scout that wishes to sell them.  The cards are $5 and the scouts will receive $2.50 per card sold to their scout account.  The cards are an easy sell (there is a $5 ShopRite coupon and many other coupons) and the selling window is until June or July.  Be advised, the money in the scout accounts from camp cards will not be available to use until late summer

Your in Scouting,

Will Purcell
Scoutmaster
Troop 122, Big Bears

Camp Cards will be available Feb. 8th

Monmouth Council will again be conducting the Camp Card program and Troop 122 will participate in it as an optional fundraising activity for each Scout. Here is how it works.
  • The Camp card is a booklet of coupons for discounts at various stores and restaurants.
  • The card is sold for $5.
  • For each one sold the Scout earns $2.50 in his Scout account to pay for such things as dues and summer camp.
I myself buy 40 of them and they end up being free. There is a coupon for $5 off a $50 purchase at Shop Rite. I buy the card for $5 and get $5 off each week at Shop Rite. Any other coupons are a bonus.
(and $100 for your scout account)
Pick up your cards at a Troop meeting from Mr. Kilduff

Thanks again,

John Kilduff

Rules for Gift Exchange
  1. Each player brings one wrapped gift to contribute to a common pool.  Gifts should be around $20 and age appropriate.
  2. Players will draw numbers to determine what order they will go in. Hold on to your number and be ready to go when your number is called.
  3. Players sit in a circle around the gift pile.
  4. The player with the number 1 selects a gift from the pile and opens it. Make sure everyone can see the gift!
  5. The following players can choose to either pick an unwrapped gift from the pile or steal a previous player’s gift. Anyone who gets their gift stolen in this way can do the same – choose a new gift or steal from someone else. To keep things moving along, a present can only be stolen once per turn, and each present can only be stolen 3 times.
  6. Once all the presents are opened, the game is over and no more steals may occur. If two players agree on a trade they may trade after the game has concluded.

In the case of disputes, the Senior Patrol Leader's decision will be final

Wreath Sale Success

Many, many heartfelt THANKS to everyone who contributed to the success of this year's Wreath Sale.  The pre-order distribution went very smoothly - thanks to everyone for picking up promptly!  The pre-sale wreath assembly went SO quickly!  And, as usual, we received many compliments on what beautiful grave blankets we offered.  A labor-intensive project, such as this, always runs more smoothly when everyone pitches in.  By 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, we were SOLD OUT -- 600 wreaths and 48 grave blankets!!!!!

My plan is to get the final financial figures completely sorted out over this upcoming weekend and will include the details in next week's email.

Kim and I are already brainstorming ideas to make next year's sale even MORE successful!!!!

Yours in Scouting,

Kris Purcell
