Volunteers Needed: Cub Scout Skills Stations

Hello everyone,

Volunteers are needed on Friday, Sep. 19 at 630pm to run scout skills stations for the pack. The stations will be:

  • tent pitching contests
  • knot tying contest
  • stretcher relay
  • basic first aid
  • compass challenge

We will be meeting at 6pm to help set up the stations behind New Monmouth school. At the first meeting, I talked about recruiting as being one of our main goals, and helping the pack which helps feed scouts into our troop.

If you can volunteer, please email me at stjw35@aol.com, call at 732-495-0953, or talk to me at the meeting on Thursday

Joe Davis

Senior Patrol Leader

Troop-122, Big Bears

Veterans Events at the VFW

The presence of our Boy Scouts at these events is particularly touching for those involved - the veterans and the Gold Star Mothers. The people attending tend to be older - veterans from wars and mothers of men who were sent off to war. The youth of our scouts is a nice addition and has a good meaning.

Last year a Gold Star mother was particularly touched to see these young men here to honor her son who had given his life for our country.

Volunteers Needed: POW/MIA Remembrance Day

POW//MIA Remembrance on Friday, Sep. 19 at 7 pm at the VFW. It will last approximately an hour. Class A uniform.

Last year's POW/MIA Rembrance Day at the VFW.

Thank you,

Will Purcell

Volunteers Needed: Scout needed for Gold Star Mother’s Luncheon

The VFW needs help with serving food at the Gold Star Mother’s Luncheon on Saturday, Sept 20th at 1 pm. Class A uniform. Show up at noon.

For those that don’t know, Gold Star Mothers are mothers that have lost children in combat. Every year, Monmouth County VFW puts on a luncheon to pay tribute to the sacrifice that these ladies (families) have made for this country by hosting a lunch for them.

Rides are available for anyone who needs one and I’ll be more than happy to write a letter or sign a book for service hours.

Thank you,

Will Purcell

Sunday Brunch at VFW

This Sunday and every 3rd Sunday of the month, VFW Post 2179 will have a brunch from 8AM to 12 noon. The VFW is located off Route 36 behind the Super Foodtown. It will be in the small room (use the side door by the gazebo).

All you can eat for $6. Kids 10 and under free.

Menu will include

  • SOS *
  • eggs to order
  • omelets
  • bacon
  • sausage
  • pancakes
  • French toast
  • juice
  • coffee and tea

* If you don't know what SOS is, I won't explain here except to say it is a military "favorite". Come to the brunch and taste what it is like to be a member of the most powerful militia on the planet.

Patrol Equipment to meeting

Quartermasters or anyone else who has patrol camping equipment - patrol box, dry box, cooler, etc - should notify your patrol leader and bring the equipment to the next meeting to prepare for the Allaire Campout.
